Today SE Bikes are sold at dealers across the US, online, and via distributors around the world. It is still available today as the flagship model in the SE Bikes range. The rider was Perry Kramer, and the bike was the PK Ripper. One of the most famous riders on that team down through the years also lent his name to a now-legendary bike. Breithaupt was involved in BMX racing before he started the company, and that continued after SE Bikes was formed with the SE team. The first bike the company produced was the STR-1. The company was founded by Scot Breithaupt and started as Scot Enterprise before becoming SE Racing and SE Bikes. Since then it has stayed true to its BMX roots, although today it also makes a range of other bikes, including beach cruisers, fitness bikes and mountain bikes. And never losing sight of their roots, their popular retro line of bikes mix classic old-school looks with modern-day geometry.SE Bikes was founded at the same time that BMX bikes were just starting to take off.

At the time, Perry Kramer, the top rider on the SE team, insisted that a gusset be welded to the top tube junction for strength. The STR-1, now known as the Quadangle, was the first SE bike ever produced, followed closely by the alloy Floval tubing PK Ripper - originally named the JU-6. In 1977, he founded Scot Enterprises, and soon after, SE Racing was born. From designing BMX tracks and promoting races to establishing BMX publications and managing race teams, Scot played an integral role in growing the sport.
At just 14 years old, he went on to create the Bicycle United Motocross Society (B.U.M.S.) and soon produced the first California State Championships in 1972. On a sunny autumn day in 1970, in a vacant lot in Long Beach, California, a young Scot Breithaupt organized the first-ever BMX race.
